BIOGRAPHY
Dorin Stef was born in Alba Iulia, Romania in 1976. His love of art stems from a
childhood in Romania where the influences are seen in architecture as well as paintings
and sculpture. In 1994 Dorin graduated from the High School of Music and Arts in
Alba Iulia, Romania with diplomas in general sculpting skills and plastic arts (European
style designer and sculptor job category). Five years later, Dorin graduated from
the University of Arts in Bucharest, Romania with a bachelor of art degree from
the college of arts. His specialties in plastic arts included sculpture, pictures,
graphics, and art visual. In 2000, Dorin moved in Spain working antiques restoration
from XVII century including statues, churches, furniture, pieces of rare art. Art
lovers from Spain, France, and Germany have been seen, appreciate and purchased
antiques restaureted by Dorin. In 2004, Dorin moved to the United States of America
where he continues his work art. His work including icons and art photography has
been appreciated and purchased by American people. Recently, Dorin’s art photography
has been display on Black&White Magazine’s website. He continues his work as an
artist from art photography to restoration and painting Byzantine icons. Dorin speaks
Romanian, Spanish and English. Currently, he and his wife, Oana reside in Grand
Haven, Michigan.
PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
1991 – Dorin’s career began with an exhibition of Byzantine icons he had sculpted
out of wood. The exhibition was held in the galleries of the Union of Plastics in
Alba Iulia, Romania. He also took part in two collective exhibitions in 1991 called
“Intervention in Romanian Revolution in 1989” and “Happening”, also located in Alba
Iulia, Romania.
1992 – Dorin contributed to a collective exhibition titled “Portrait” in Cluj-Napoca,
Romania. He also participated in the International Camp of Sculpture and Design’s
“Intervention in the European Contemporary Architecture”.
1995 – “Little Sculpture in Wood” collective exhibition took place in Timisoara,
Romania as well as an individual exhibition titled “Sculpture in Stone”.
1997 – Dorin participated in a collective exhibition of sculpture, graphics and
design along with an exhibition in marble at the Hotel Bucuresti Gallery. From there,
he exhibited with sculpture and stone in Udine, Italy.
1998 – Dorin presented his first exhibition of photography at the Saba Gallery in
Brasov, Romania.
2000 – Dorin prompted two collective exhibitions in Toledo, Spain; one of sculpture
and marble piece, the other of art photography.
2001 – Individual exhibition in stone in Toledo. He then presented an exhibition
with icons, hand-worked in the Byzantine style at galleries in Alcazar de San Juan,
Ciudad Real, Quintanar de la Orden, and Toledo, Spain.
2007- Dorin's photography was display in Black&White Magazine’s website.
2008- Dorin became member of Professional Photographers of America
